photo night live...
A few weeks ago I got an email from Ross Dean asking if I would be interested in doing an interview for his new project Photo Night Live. Ross had the idea to do a weekly web TV show aiming to pull together the photography community once a week with special guests from the photo world discussing chosen hot topics.
Every week he invites one Pro Photographer and one emerging photographer in order to get a really cool discussion from both ends of the professional spectrum. Each 30 min show is designed to give the viewers an in depth view into the world of pro photography, whilst matching up names who you probably would not see anywhere else, engaged in discussion. It also provides a fantastic opportunity to the emerging photographer by showcasing them to the photography community.
Of course I jumped at the chance and didn't really think about it until that afternoon when I suddenly realised that a) I was a skype virgin and b) I would have to talk about stuff and try and make it coherent, interesting and no waffling...
It would be Ross, me and a fantastic emerging Photographer Kerrie Mitchell and our show would be all about seizing the moment, creating opportunity and being in control of your own destiny. Sweeeeeeet!
It was so much fun and actually a really lovely exercise talking about my own experiences... I really enjoyed it! Since it aired the response has been amazing and we've all had emails and tweets saying how much people enjoyed it which is brilliant... it really does feel bloody good to share!
Catch ‘Photo Night Live’ every Friday from 7pm (GMT). If you would like to be considered for a future show, please drop an email to info@rossdeanphotography.com
Also I kinda wish I'd checked what was behind me as I'm thinking the mattress propped against the wall isn't really a good look.

I was living in Birmingham and only knew my flatmate... I was in between Acting jobs and saw that Pete lived in Brum and had pretty much the same taste in music... and he looked fit in his photo...so I sent him a message and he replied. We got chatting and he gave me tips on where were the good places to go and we realised we'd been in the same pub on New Years Eve too but never saw each other! We then exchanged numbers and Pete had played it cool saying if you fancy catching up some time then give us a text... great....HUGE ball in my court. So on that Thursday I knew he was in town and I text him (cue wandering around town for a few hours trying to keep busy waiting for a reply). He text back saying that he was meeting some mates and I was more than welcome to join them.. oh christ... have to walk in to a pub on my own, not 100% sure what he looks like and he's with his mates.. also I'd found something to fill some time that afternoon which was actually giving blood (sounds random but I'd tried to go the day before and it was closed) ...so passing out was another concern.
I walked in and stood at the bar, called my mate, saw him walk past (he didn't have his glasses on so wasn't sure it was me) and then plucked up the courage to go over... luckily his mates consisted of another couple so I sat down and we got chatting... we then went to another pub and chatted some more.. we then headed to a club (a pretty dead one) and chatted some more.. then Pete stopped chatting, stared at me for quite a long time (to the point where I actually asked if he was ok) and then he kissed me... all together now... 'Ahhhhhh'... we have been inseparable ever since.
Pete actually sent me a message (via Myspace) two days after we met and I feel the exact same way about the last five years...

This is England...
.. and this is my Sister Jodie. It's her birthday today and a little while ago she came to visit and we took some photos... Jodes absolutely adored the film and the TV series This is England so we decided to do a shoot with that in mind... it was freezing that day but we had a laugh... especially when we set off from the first location (the tower blocks) when Jodie realised she'd actually left her bag on the grass!
Happy Birthday Jodes!... I am off to Cath Kidston to buy you something floral... :)

Paula and her beautiful family...
Paula is the founder and Artistic Director of Deafinitely Theatre... the theatre company I toured a play called 'Double Sentence' with in 2009 and 2010. Paula set up Deafinitely Theatre (with Kate Furby and Steven Webb) after being continually frustrated at the barriers that Deaf actors and directors faced in mainstream theatre and since it began it has gone from strength to strength producing fantastic theatre tackling all sorts of Deaf issues....
But for this shoot it wasn't about theatre... or acting... it was about family. Paula and her partner Tomato asked if I would take some photos of their gorgeous little family and I didn't need to be asked twice!! They have two absolutely beautiful daughters Molly and Hazel who I could spend all day with! It was actually their joint Birthday party that afternoon too so a rendition of 'Happy Birthday' was signed and then we all headed to the park...
It was so lovely to spend time with Paula outside of work and I'm really proud to know her and her family... and if you ever want to go and watch some great theatre then go check them out!
